The Knowledge Image is the unit of work

Vector search is a useful index. It is not a knowledge runtime. When counsel asks why a passage appeared, the answer is a span, a plan hash, and a read receipt — not a nearest-neighbor vibe.

V4 Knowledge Images are the current shipping contract: deterministic lexical evidence, receipts, and local execution. The open-source contract lives in knolo-core. Product language lives on HIVE. This company images the corpus, permissions it, evaluates it, and runs it inside the system.

Unclassified material does not get imaged. Smaller and clean beats large and contaminated. Pack versions move through the same change control as code. The image can be verified offline. Production may sit in a VPC or on-prem cage; the verify path does not depend on our SaaS being up.

V5 extends the same file into a transactional runtime — one ledger for knowledge, policy, memory, authority, and agent runs. Architecture proposed and being implemented. Not generally available. We will not describe a path as shipping because the diagram is done.

Models are replaceable. The image is the mountable artifact. That is the unit of work this company will put in a statement of work.
